Sold Ponies

This page is written with grateful thanks to the owners of all these ponies. Thank you for sending photos and history, keeping in touch and becoming friends, but most of all for providing such marvellous homes for the ponies. Without you, this page would not exist.

Lochlands Principal Flute

Lochlands Principal Flute, 3yo colt.

Sire: Callum of Forglen ( Monarchdene x Kerry of Craignetherty)

Dam: Flute of Whitefield ( Brig 'O Doon of Whitefield x Yvette of Whitefield )

'Bart' has had an extremely successful first season in the show ring as a 3yo colt in 2007: Champion Highland at West Midlands Stallion Show, Champion Highland at Royal Bath & West, Reserve Champion at Midlands In Hand, Youngstock Champion at Malvern Highland Pony Show and Supreme Champion at Bucks County.

Sire: Strathmore Concorde (Broadshade Concorde x Rose of Strathmore).

Dam: Turinhill Kate (Roderick Dhu of Whitefield x Frolic of Mendick).

Choirboy ( Tom) is owned by Mrs Kate Barrett, she has had Tom since he was a 2yo.Kate first showed Tom as a 3yo, he had a wonderful first season, winning at Leicester County, reserve youngstock champion at East Anglian Native, youngstock champion at Royal of England and reserve supreme at The Malvern Highland Pony Show.Tom has continued with his winning ways inhand and Kate has now broken him to ride. This year has seen him win his first red ticket under saddle, winning the ridden highland class at Market Bosworth Show. We wish Kate and Tom all the best for the future and look forward to following their progress.

Lochlands Choir Boy - NCPA Spring Show, 2007.

2007: Lovely to have news of Tom, from his new owner Anne Walker. Tom has had another successful season in the show ring, winning at Selby Game Fair, NCPA ( Notts & Lincs Branch) Spring Show, NPS Area 4, Lincolnshire & East Midlands Native Pony Show Association and at Northern Horse Show (champion).

Anne writes: " It has been such fun competing and the rosettes have just been the icing on the cake. Winning at NPS Area 4 was a real thrill as the the class was in the main ring of The Great Yorkshire Showground ( photo below). It was our first year competing at this level and we have ( and are continuing) to learn a great deal. However Tom's main role is family friend, he loves going back to bed after brekfast and let's us go in and share a cuddle."

Lochlands Banjo

Banjo

Foaled 1997

Sire: Whitefield Lord Anthem (Trowan Cavalier x Ruby of Whitefield).

Dam: Lochlands Coranach (Roderick Dhu of Whitefield x Maymorn of Meggernie).

Banjo was sold to Debbie Spears as a yearling gelding.

Debbie writes " He was only shown once as a yearling at Ashwell Show, where he was first and Reserve Champion. He was unshown as a 2yo , but as a 3yo he was Reserve Youngstock Champoin at the Malvern Highland Pony Show.

Produced by Katy Marriott-Payne, he was brought out under saddle as a 5yo, and in his first season he qualified for the NPS Picton Final, Kingsford M+M Final and for HOYS."

Banjo is now in a new home and continues to do well, missing out on another HOYS qualification by just one point earlier this year. His new owner Jane Rackham writes "He is rarely unplaced, and has done some dressage too. I need some lessons in how to remember the tests though ! He is a very friendly pony and loves people, we all love him, he is such a character! He has made riding for me very enjoyable again and puts up with having to stand at any available mounting place, for me to clamber on with my dodgy knees ! "

It is lovely to hear that Banjo is well settled in his new home and is giving so much pleasure. Best of luck for the future and we look forward to hearing of his continuing news and following his progress.

Sire:Roderick Dhu of Whitefield (Major of Whitefield x Kristina of Whitefield).

Dam: Frolic of Mendick (Glensuie x Jess of Whitefield).

Chorister was sold to Ellie and Chris Handley as a yearling gelding, and I am delighted to say that he is still with them today. He was shown with great succes as a youngster doing particularly well as 3yo, he was Champion at East Anglian Native,1st at ponies UK South,Spring and Summer Champs. He was also shown under saddle,in workers and has been an all round family pony turning his hand to a bit of everything.

Lochlands Opus

Foaled 1989.

Sire: Drummerdene (Glenaylmer x Jenniferdene).

Dam: Frolic of Mendick (Glensuie x Jess of Whitefield).

I sold Opus to Morven Campbell when he was a yearling.Opus needs little introduction to those north of the Border. He was a consistent prizewinner during the 1990s and being black, with his distinctive freezemark, he was instantly recognisable. Morven truly produced Opus as the ultimate versatile highland pony.

Morven writes the following :

" Opus retired from the showring in 1998 and he went to Beth Wells where he was used for trekking.
In his next loan home with my farrier, Neil Chalmers, he showed his versatility by doing mounted falconry demonstrations (as seen in the main arena at Blair Castle in 2001). He has also hunted with Lauderdale and did several endurance rides.
His biggest claim to fame, is to have won the Highland Pony Grand National at The South West Highland Pony Club Show three times."

Morven kindly sent me what can only be described as a huge list of their achievements, some of which are as follows: 1993 Res Inhand & Res Supreme SWHPC, 1994 Res CH Ayr, Res CH & best opp sex Drymen, qualified for the NPS picton final, CH Blair Castle and Res CH ridden SWHPC. 1995 CH Ayr. 1997 Inhand CH Drymen.1998 Res CH Central & West Fife. In 1997 Opus also competed in the Search for a Star series, and at Osbaldeston he won his section and had best marks for conformation, he then went on to compete in the final at Royal Windsor and was Reserve Supreme.

Hunting with the Lauderdale

Lochlands Galliard

Foaled 1988.

Sire: Drummerdene (Glenaylmer x Jenniferdene).

Dam: Frolic of Mendick ( Glensuie x Jess of Whitefield ).

I sold Galliard ( Gael ) to Mrs Sally Coutts as a 2yo filly. Gael went on to have a very successful showing career. She won not only inhand, she was champion as a 3yo at Doune and Dunblane, but Sally broke her to both riding and driving and she excelled in both these disciplines. She truly was an all round pony.Under saddle she won the novice class as a 4yo at the HPS breed show. In 1992 she was 2nd at Malvern in the Picton final out of a class of 31. In 1994 Gael continued to do well in the ridden classes but was alo competing in drivng classes, 3rd at the Royal Highland show (2nd ridden) and winning the driving at the HPS breed show (3rd ridden ).Sally later sold Gael to a new home in Germany.
