Yesterday we went to Kirriemuir Show, after a very few wet days, this had looked dangerously close to being cancelled for a 2nd year, thankfully the weather improved just in time and the show was able to go ahead.
We took Maddy and foal and Snow Maiden. Maddy won the brood mare class, foal Mandola was second and Maiden was 2nd in the 2yo filly class.

This afternoon I have been out with the camera, so a few pics of the youngsters.

Yesterday we headed down to Strathallan for the Highland Pony Society Breed Show. It was raining when we left and didn't look very promising, thankfully the day did fair up, and although very breezy the rain for the most part stayed away.
We took 2yo filly Snow Maiden and yearling filly Lochlands Mandora, this was Dora's first ever show outing and she coped and behaved very well. We had a lovely day and both fillies did well, Maiden was 2nd in a very strong class of 2yo fillies and Mandora was 3rd in the yearling filly class.
Picture above Mandora and below Maiden.

Congratulations to Debbie Spear's who made the long journey North, we were delighted for her when Lochlands Madonna was 2nd in the Nursery Novice Ridden class and 6th in the Open, this was only Donna's third time out competing under saddle.

We had a pleasant day out yesterday at Fettercairn Show. It is a lovely little local Agricultural Show and we usually try to go and support the highland pony section.
We took 2yo filly Lochlands Snow Maiden and yearling filly Lochlands Silver Raven.
Both fillies won their classes and Snow Maiden was Reserve Champion.
Congratulations to Lynne Macdonald who was highland pony champion with her yeld mare, Morven of Coynach, Morven then went on to win the Overall Horse and Pony Championship, so good day for the highland ponies.

We had a most enjoyable Royal Highland Show, the weather was wonderful, warm and sunny throughout, no wellies or wet weather gear required, great sociable atmosphere and our three ponies were all in the ribbons.
We took our 9yo brood mare Lochlands Madasun ( Achtriochtan Dougal x Lochlands Mandolin) and we were delighted with her second place in the brood mare class. We were equally thrilled when her filly foal Lochlands Mandola ( Viscount of Whitefield x Lochlands Madasun ) was awarded 2nd prize in the foal class.

We also took our yearling filly Lochlands Silver Raven ( Belivat Muldoanich x Lochlands Silver Flute ), this was only Raven's second ever outing, we were delighted with her second place in a very strong class of yearling fillies.

We were delighted for Mairi Page who won the 3yo filly class with Lochlands Silver Chime, many thanks to Mairi's husband Nick for the photograph below, Chime pictured with Robin Stewart, judge of the highland pony female classes.

Further pic below of Lochlands Silver Chime, winner of the three year old filly class. Silver Chime and Silver Raven are both out Lochlands Silver Flute.

Saturday saw us off to Fife Show, first outing for this year. The day dawned bright and warm and turned into a real scorcher, it made for a very sociable and enjoyable day.
We took 2yo filly Snow Maiden and yearling filly Silver Raven, her first ever outing. We were delighted with both of them, particulalry with how well Raven coped with her first trip away from home.
Maiden was second in the 2yo class, this class was won J A Baird's colt Whitefield Lord Qunicy. Silver Raven was first prize yearling.
Judge for the In-Hand classes was Susan Wardrop of the Carlung Stud, her Champion was Willie and Jennifer Allan's stallion Glenmuir Lochinver and Reserve was Messrs George Bairds yeld mare Gloria of Whitefield.

Pictured above 2yo filly Snow Maiden. Unfortunately I didn't get any photos of Raven, but below is one of her practising at home, going for a walk a few nights before.

After a long wait Moonlight has finally foaled. She has a filly, it was a little bit slow sussing out the milk bar, but the penny did drop and she is now back outside with mum and doing well.

Magic's foal continues to do well, he is a real character and full of energy and mischief, loves buzzing the other ponies and seems to be always on the go playing and running around.

22nd April
A very sad update. On 20th of April, we had to to have our lovely new colt, Torrin of Achnacone PTS due to the sudden onset of acute Grass Sickness. As is typical with this dreadful disease it came on suddenly and within 24hrs we had no other option but to have this lovely young pony put down. Such a sad sad waste and we are both very upset and disappointed. He was with us for such a short time, but had settled in so well and soon became part of our lives. We will miss him very much and are so sad that the hopes we had for him will never be realised. We are very grateful to our vet for his prompt and unstinting care and attention during Monday/ Tuesday, and thank you to everyone who has sent messages of support.
On a happier note, Maddy has had a filly foal, by Viscount of Whitefield. Mother and baby both doing well, and like of all of Maddy's foals, she is a very friendly wee person and happy to be stroked and spoken to.
I have no photos as yet, but will get some soon and add pictures within the next couple of days.

13th April
We have our first foal for 2010. Magic foaled in the early hours of Friday morning, 9th of April. A lovely colt foal, by Whitefield Prince Platinum, he is a very sturdy chappie and looks like he is going to be yellow dun. We are delighted with him and following the opera theme of his mother's name, he will be called Lochlands Gypsy Baron.
Below are a couple of photos taken the afternoon he was born, more pictures to follow soon.

Moonlight is past her due date, but appears to be in no hurry to foal and is keeping us waiting. Maddy is due next week and is coming on fast, so we should hopefully have news of another arrival soon.

A Good Weekend for the Flute Boys:

It was equally lovely a few hours later, to hear from Anne & Steve with news of Lochlands Treble Flute who also had a successful outing on Sunday. He won both his classes and championship at Port Royal, qualifying for the P (UK) Winter Championships.
Anne has kindly sent me the following photos of Treble Flute ( Belivat Muldoanich x Flute of Whitefield ) he will 3yo in May.

3rd January

Happy New Year to all our readers, hoping that 2010 is a good year for everyone.
Sorry for the lack of updates recently, although during the winter months there is little to report. The ponies are all well and thriving in this wintery cold spell of weather, although I have to say I am pretty fed up with it now. We have mostly missed the snow and only had the odd flurry, so instead of nice scenic snow we have simply had ice.

We have had a few changes since the Autumn, you will see from the photos that the views have changed and also that a new yellow dun pony has appeared.
The ponies have all moved to new grazings, luckily we still have the same landlord, but have moved to a different holding. The ponies were a bit unsettled for the first week, as apart from the two old mares Mandy and Melody, the other ponies had never grazed anywhere different from where they had been foaled. However they soon settled and seem well content with their new views and environment now.
With the move came a few other changes, Sass has moved south to Yorkshire, to the Combebank Stud and Hazel of Combebank, a 2yo filly came northwards to us. Sass has settled in well and is very content with his new wives.
Silver Drum moved to his new home in Buckinghamshire in September, and we have had regular updates from his new owners, he is doing well and soon made friends and settled in with his two new highland pony friends.

We will hopefully have the arrival of four foals to look forward to this Spring. Magic due in April to Whitefield Prince Platinum, Moonlight due in April to Sass, Maddy also in April to Viscount of Whitefield and Sylvie in early May to Sass.

I would like to thank everyone who emailed, messaged me through the forum and sent cards and kind words after our sadness with the loss of Flute. The kind words were much appreciated and meant a lot to both us, thank you all so much.
