We had a most enjoyable day out to Fettercairn Show on Saturday, sadly this show was cancelled last year due to the huge amount rain that fell in the few days before, thankfully no weather problems this year, a lovely dry sunny day.
Lochlands Madonna Champion Highland & Reserve Overall Horse Champion

Once again we took Donna and Sylvie. Sadly there were no other mares and foals forward on the day, however Donna won her class, went on to be highland pony champion and much to our surprise and delight, was also Reserve Overall Horse Champion.

We have decided to call Sylvie's foal, Lochlands Silver Drum. Photos below leading and I couldn't resist the very sleepy foal picture, this showing lark is very tiring for a baby !

We haven't been out to any shows since our last update so don't have any news as such. This was the first year since the early 1980's that I haven't shown at The Royal Highland Show, however it made a very pleasant change to be spectating and enjoy watching the judging of all the classes. Congratulations to the Baird family who took the Championship with their lovely mare Islay of Whitefield, a very popular and worthy winner.
I will update with a few photos for now, below Maddy eyeing up something in the distance.

below Maddy's filly foal:

Magic and Sylvie's foals, both wanting Nikki to give them a scratch.

Sass had been away for a few months this spring enjoying a working holiday, however he is home now, and pictured below with his two sons,Flute and Moonlight's foals.

Since last writing we have enjoyed our first show of the season, our local Angus Show. It was a super day, very sociable and the weather couldn't have been better, hope it is the same for the rest of the season !
We took Madonna and Sylvie, Madonna won a very strong class of 2 and 3yo fillies, and Sylvie was 4th in the brood mare class. We were delighted for Louise Cushnie who was second in Madonna's class with her 2yo filly Lochlands Fiery Angel.
Congratulations to the Baird family, who won the Highland Pony Championship, the Mountaina & Moorland Championship and were awarded the overall horse Champion with their brood mare Kimberly of Whitefield.

HIGHLAND PONY TALK FORUM
Sorry to everyone who is finding that the forum is not available just now. Hopefully it will be restored and back to normal very soon.
Unfortunately a fire at the company who host the proboards servers has caused a number of networks to be knocked out, unfortunately including the server that Highland Pony Talk is located on.
see news story: http://www.allheadlinenews.com:80/articles/7011131185
Everything will be restored and back to normal very soon, and I have been assured that all the data and content on the board is safe, so nothing will have been lost.

The ponies are all well and the foals are growing and enjoying the prolonged spell of dry weather we are having. I will hopefully find the time to get some new photographs of them this week.
I thought I would share with you the lovely painting that artist Nicolla Pennill painted of our filly Madonna last year , I think she has captured the spirit of Donna beautifully.

Congratulations to Mairi Page and her filly Lochlands Silver Chime, who stood reserve highland pony champion at the recent Strathbogie Farmers Club Show.

No Bank Holiday for us, but a glorious day, after a wet misty weekend the sun has returned, let's hope it is here to stay.
A few photos to update with.
Below two of Flute, who is still very foal proud and not very obliging about sharing her new baby ! Another few days and the novelty will have worn off.

I am very happy to report that our mares are all safely foaled, Mandy and Flute have both had colts by 'Sass'. We have six healthy foals, a filly and a colt by Belivat Muldoanich and one filly and three colts by Rignell Sassenach.
Once I have caught up on some much needed sleep, I will get out with the camera and update with photographs.

Maddy foaled in the early hours of the morning a filly to 'Sass'. Not a day for the camera, will update with photos soon.

First sunny really warm day we have had, absolutely glorious. Lovely to see the ponies all contented, enjoying the sun and some heat on their backs.
We have two new foals Moonlight has a colt, by 'Sass' and Sylvie foaled yesterday and had a colt by Belivat Muldoanich.
Moonlight's baby newly on his feet, "hello mummy " and having a much needed nap.

Sylvie's foal, not long arrived and keeping up with mum.

Magic's foal is doing well and is to be called Lochlands Snow Maiden.I will get new photos of her within the next few days, below is a photo of Marimba, our yearling filly by Viscount of Whitefield out of Lochlands Madasun.

Welcome to the latest arrival. Magic has had a filly foal, by Belivat Muldoanich.

Mother and daughter both doing well. The foal is delighful and very lively, running at great speed around the paddock, much to Magic's annoyance.

I will hopefuly have news of other new arrivals soon, the mares seem to be running late this year, maybe due to the cold late spring.

At last a wee update, although very little to report. The ponies are all wintering well, despite the increased amount of wet that we have had. They are still out on the stubble, and I am very much hoping that things will have dried up before they come back onto the grass paddocks in March.
The mares are all looking in foal now, and with the first of them being due in early April, it isn't too much longer to wait.

The two foals from last year, are both growing up now and beginning to look more like yearlings as opposed to foals. As the weather was surprisingly pleasant this morning for a change, I thought I would attempt to take some photos of them, unfortunately it was largely unsuccessful though, as they wanted to come and see what was going on ! I will have to try again another day.
