Lochlands Melody
Melody is back with us on breeding loan, she actually belongs to my parents. They bought her from us as a yearling, but because of their recent retiral she will spend the rest of her days with us. She is broken and is an active riding pony. I enjoyed riding her for several years prior to putting her in foal. She has bred two foals to date, and we are hoping to serve her again in the spring. The photo below shows Melody as a foal with her dam Duircein of Balinoe. Sadly Duircein was put to sleep at the premature age of 14 in 1992, after she developed a nasty tumour in her mouth.I bought Duircein from her breeder Lorna Robertson in 1982. She was a pony with great character, had a lovely nature but with her own outlook on life. Duircein certainly lives on in Melody, not only does she look very similar to her dam, particularly the lovely head, but Melody, although being the kindest natured pony you could wish for, still remains top dog amongst the ponies. She may not be the biggest, but she is certainly boss, in exactly the same way that Duircein used to be.
